Web15. feb 2012 · I'm looking to refinish the wood stock that came with the Yugo SKS 59/66 that I picked up recently. I see no markings on it that could be considered collectible. It's just in mediocre condition and IMO would look a lot better refinished. I was planning on using a MinWax Pre Stain, MinWax Stain followed by a MinWax Polyurethane coating. It has been suggested to me that I clean it with Easy Off oven cleaner, rub it with damp 000 steel wool, then rub in boiled linseed oil.

There are different kinds of oil finish, boiled linseed, a soft oil finish and modified oils such as Truoil, tung oil and others which give a hard shiny finish. Either type of oil finish is much softer and less scratch resistant than poly, but easily repaired.
Web24. júl 2010 · try minwax wipe on poly comes in satin or gloss and is easy to apply. takes several coats but the finish is great and easy to fix if needed. I've used that before, and it works really well. Makes a very hard, durable, waterproof finish without the plastic look. It will work fine on the wood stock and hangrips. It does a great job on metal also. Clean my table saw with alcohol, dry it and then apply the paste wax. Let dry and buff off. Makes the surface nice and smoooth and prevents rust.
